Beckers Group is a global coatings company focused on sustainable innovation, providing advanced coating solutions across industrial and consumer markets. Its UAE facility, Beckers RAK, reflects this same commitment — not just to environmental responsibility, but to proactive safety.
Although fire suppression within electrical cabinets is not a legal requirement in the UAE, Beckers RAK took the initiative to install cabinet-based fire suppression systems in its switchrooms. This forward-thinking step, led by the site’s maintenance team, underscores Beckers’ philosophy of acting before incidents occur and ensuring that sustainable safety practices can be replicated across global operations.

Electrical cabinets pose an inherent fire risk, from potential short circuits to irregularities in components that can ignite without warning.
At Beckers RAK, Maintenance Engineer Mr. Ahmed recognised this risk early. Despite having comprehensive fire protection throughout the factory, including a full foam sprinkler system, the electrical rooms remained less protected.
“I recognised the potential fire hazards and short circuits associated with electrical cabinets and components,” explains Ahmed. “When I raised this with management, they acknowledged the gravity of the situation and supported my proposal to find the best system available.”.
The challenge was to find a targeted, reliable and sustainable solution that could contain electrical fires at their source without damaging sensitive equipment or requiring major installation changes.
After evaluating several options, Beckers selected Reacton’s cabinet-based fire suppression system, a pre-engineered, automatic solution designed to detect and extinguish fires directly within electrical enclosures.
The decision was driven by several key factors:.

“A primary factor for choosing Reacton was the 1230 clean agent,” says Ahmed. “It’s environmentally friendly and has no adverse impact on our sustainability goals.”
The installation was completed efficiently and professionally by Reacton’s regional team, integrating with Beckers’ existing fire protection infrastructure. The system now complements the factory’s foam sprinkler coverage by addressing previously underprotected electrical areas.
Since installation, Beckers RAK has significantly strengthened its fire resilience strategy, particularly within high-risk electrical environments. The system operates independently, providing round-the-clock protection that automatically activates in the event of heat or flame detection.
The initiative has also attracted interest from Beckers’ regional and global teams, who are now evaluating the project as a potential safety standard for other sites worldwide.
“This project can be readily adapted across industries,” Ahmed notes. “It’s cost-effective, robust, and supports our goal of proactive, sustainable safety.”
By prioritising preventive action and environmentally responsible technology, Beckers Group has set a new benchmark for electrical safety within the region’s manufacturing sector.
“It’s essential to take the necessary steps to prevent electrical incidents,” Ahmed concludes. “No matter what systems you have in place, regular testing, inspection and preventive maintenance are key to maintaining safety standards.”
